Bringing the most advanced technology to our patients, Newby & Padley recommend OPTOMAP® ultra-wide digital retinal imaging as part of your comprehensive eye examination.
An Optomap® image provides a bigger picture and more clinical information which allows the early detection, management and effective treatment of disorders and diseases of the retina, such as retinal detachments, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Retinal imaging can also indicate evidence of non-eye or systemic diseases such as hypertension and certain cancers.
Optomap® images give a 200 degree view and 80% of the retina whereas normal retinal camera images give only a 45 degree view and 15% of the retina.
Taking an Optomap® image is non-invasive, easy and eye drops are not required. We have imaged children as young as 6 years old. "Using Optomap® to view the retina rather than a conventional direct ophthalmoscope is like opening the door to see into a room rather than peering through the keyhole"
